AUSTIN The pace of early voting heading toward the March 6 primaries appears to be brisk in the state's most populous counties, compared with the 2014 midterm elections, and Democratic turnout was up dramatically, first-day figures released Wednesday showed.
The first day's totals from Tuesday, which include those who showed up in person to cast a ballot and those who previously had mailed in their votes in time to be included in the initial numbers, indicated that even Democrats are energized both in the urban counties and in the Republican suburbs.
In Harris County, home of Houston, just over 8,000 voters either cast ballots in person or by mail on Tuesday in the Democratic Primary. On the first day of early voting four years ago, only 3,356 Democratic ballots had been cast.
By comparison, the 2014 Republican total in Harris County on the first day was 11,855. This time it was 9,647.

(112,249 posts)since it inserted the presidential election year with the mid-terms, but those are some great numbers! There is nothing better to rile up Democratic support than a horrible despicable Republican president

Brietbart is not a trustworthy source but it is nice to laugh at the angst being expressed about Democratic turnout by these idiots

(2,343 posts)The ladies at the polling place were all talky talkerson with me (they were white and I'm white) until they asked which ballot i needed. I proudly proclaimed "Democratic". I could almost feel the disdain they had for me at my response (I live in Ted Poe's district). It was subtle, but it was there. Maybe I'm just hyper sensitive in this current climate. Unfortunately, i couldn't vote for a state rep because there is not a democratic challenger to the incumbent repuke! But i had my list of everyone else and was excited to vote today. I don't hold out much hope in a blue Texas yet, but i do think I'll see a blue one again before i die.

(112,249 posts)They have the same disappointed response with me since I'm a white voter with short hair, no tattoos or body piercings. I need to study the ballot more closely, but I suspect that I'm gong to select one of the candidates that isn't as well known in the governor's race.
