Texas Tourism under dump

We are planning to visit Texas this summer and go to Big Bend National Park. With the lunatic in office I'm hesitant to plan too far ahead. I wonder if Texas has noticed a drop in tourism with the dotard as president and if his base in Texas attribute it to him. I imagine Hurricane Harvey has already had an impact tourism.

a drop in visitors. I for one wouldn't step foot in any of them given a choice. I would want to relax and enjoy any time off and definately wouldn't want to spend my hard earned money contributing to hate filled areas. I put my money where my heart and mouth is.

Come, enjoy, and find a whole 'nother country. From Featherfest on the coast to Palo Doro Canyon in the Panhandle and Big Bend in the west to the Big Thicket next to Louisiana this is one BIG beautiful place.

We're all just folks here.

It is very hot and the nearest swimming is 3 hour drive away.

Palo Duro canyon up near Amarillo is a better bet due to cooler weather. Big Bend is very hot and very remote.

We went to Big Thicket in the summer, but there was plenty of swimming and plenty of civilization.

We're going in June because we're still slaves to the school calendar so we'll be trading the Atlanta heat for the Texas heat but with the weather being what it's been...

Our trip includes El Paso, White Sands National Monument, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Ft. Davis/McDonald Observatory and BBNP. Our daughters have been collecting Jr. Park Ranger Badges since they were in kindergarten and even though they're 18 & 21 they still do the Jr. Ranger books, a service offered by the NPS that may not last.

Do they still do the border crossing at Boquillas del Carmen? Is it safe and is it worth doing? Of course, God knows what can happen between now and then.

I'm in the process of reading 'Texas' by James Michener and am learning so much about Texas! I told my husband I'm reading about Scotland and he said, "I thought you were reading 'Texas'." Hopefully I'll be done reading all 1090 pages by June.
