Prosecutors drop all charges against Rep. Dawnna Dukes: What people are saying

Monday afternoon, Travis County prosecutors dropped all of the remaining charges against state Rep. Dawnna Dukes (D), according to court filings.

Travis County District attorney Margaret Moore placed the blame on a top official’s conflicting statements about a legislative rule that would require travel to Austin in order to collect reimbursement pay.

According to the Texas Legislature’s House Policy & Procedures Manual, lawmakers can claim travel reimbursement if they travel “to Austin to attend to legislative duties in their office."

That rule was the basis for the felony indictment case against Dukes, who was accused of tampering with government records by submitting travel reimbursement forms for days that she did not go to the Capitol in 2013 and 2014.
