Services for former Gov. White are Wednesday with burial state cemetery on Thursday
AUSTIN George W. Bush will give the eulogy for former Texas Gov. Mark White at a memorial service in Houston on Wednesday.
White, who served from 1983 until 1987, will lie in state at the Capitol on Thursday and be buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
The services for White, who died Saturday at age 77, will begin at 11 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church in Houston. His body will lie in state in the Capitol from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday and be buried at the Texas State Cemetery in a private ceremony.
White, a former Texas secretary of state and later the states attorney general, served a single term as governor from 1983 until 1987. He is best remembered for championing education reforms, which set academic performance standards for students and more accountability for teachers.
