Austin police officer and wife charged with social security fraud

An Austin police officer and his wife have been charged with Social Security fraud, according to a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday in U.S. Western District Court in Austin.

The indictment says that on Feb. 13, Roosevelt Granderson II knowingly made false statements related to Selica Granderson’s eligibility to receive Supplemental Security Income benefits. It accuses Roosevelt Granderson of falsely denying that he lived in the same household and shared a checking account with Selica Granderson.

He is charged with two counts — making a false statement to an agency of the United States and misprision of felony.

The indictment accuses Selica Granderson of stealing approximately $183,260 in Social Security funds. She is charged with seven counts.
