Austin man convicted of I-35 rock-throwing that left one with brain damage says it 'became a sport'
The man arrested last year for throwing rocks at moving vehicles on Interstate 35 in Austin pleaded guilty this week, and an interview with an Austin TV station this week is giving a new look into the mind of the convicted serial attacker, who said the act "became a sport."
Patrick Eugene Johnson, 56, pleaded guilty Thursday to four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and agreed to 40 concurrent years of prison time, a news release from the Travis County District Attorney's said Thursday.
The suspect spoke with CBS Austin earlier this week in a phone interview, confessing to throwing rocks at vehicles and going into detail as to why he did it.
Johnson attributed his actions to HIV/AIDS, which he said he's had for over 35 years, according to the TV interview.
