Marlin ISD seniors frustrated with leadership struggles
As the Marlin Independent School District considers an agreement that would see the district closed if it fails accountability ratings this year, three seniors are speaking out.
The students say theyre frustrated by the unprofessional attitudes and dialogue displayed between the state-appointed board of managers and Superintendent Michael Seabolt during recent school board meetings.
Theyre also upset about the superintendents proposed plan to eliminate at least 10 administrative and teaching positions to overcome the districts $1.1 million budget deficit after the district hiked incoming teacher salaries last year.
Shey Andrews, Daniel Ocampo and Jazmyn McGee have grown up in the district and said the positions on the chopping block are filled by educators who taught them to stand up for what they believe in. They plan to do exactly that by voicing their concerns during the next available public comment session at the 6 p.m. board meeting Tuesday, they said.
