Amarillo Matters PAC jumps into veterinary school efforts
In its first major initiative, local political action committee Amarillo Matters announced Thursday it has started efforts to get funding and support from the Texas Legislature for a proposed school of veterinary medicine in Amarillo.
The PAC said it would push for a school to be built by the Texas Tech University System, which in December put the project on hold. Tech System regents last week unanimously voted to not seek funding during the current Legislative session.
We as a region and as a city need to be standing up for ourselves in Austin and make sure we get a fair share of the pie, PAC member and President of Pantera Energy Co. Jason Herrick said.
PAC members are in Austin visiting with our representatives and our legislators now, Herrick said. Funding is in the House budget right now. We would like it to stay there, and we would certainly like to see it added to the Senate budget.
