Texas Woman's University building evacuated after chemical reaction

DENTON -- The graduate research building at Texas Woman’s University was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after the mixture of two chemicals caused an explosion.

Around 12:45 p.m., an acid and a base were mixed together in a research lab when a reaction caused the glass container to burst, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).

No one was in the lab at the time and no injuries were reported, school officials told the station.

The Graduate Research Building is expected to be closed the remainder of the day. Oakland Street in front of the building is expected to be closed until Thursday.
