Brenham boy’s death impacts legislation
President Barack Obama signed legislation providing incentives for pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs for rare pediatric diseases on Monday, and its in part thanks to a little Brenham boy.
In January 2003, Donna and Tim Cullivers 4-year-old son Adam died within four hours of being diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Adam got sick around 5 p.m. and was dead later that night, the father said.

Since Adams death, the Brenham residents have traveled to Washington, D.C., twice a year to meet with members of Congress about funding for pediatric drugs. That is where they met Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Austin, and his wife and shared their story.
McCaul introduced the Creating Hope Act of 2011 after being affected by the many stories hes heard and children hes met. His wife Linda serves on the board at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

[font color=green] This was a bi-partisan bill introduced by McCaul and G. K. Butterfield (D-NC). While I am not fond of McCaul's politics, this is a great story of what can happen after the bickering stops in Congress. Our country would benefit so much if our representatives cooperated.
