Related: About this forumPolice: Up to 50,000 attended Womens March in Austin
Thousands of people swarmed the Capitol at noon as the Womens March on Austin kicked off. The crowds spilled over from the Capitol grounds to surrounding streets.
When the marching began, the streets were so packed with people, many chose to stand on the sidewalks to cheer on fellow marchers.
Organizers said they expected 34,000 to attend, and police said there were at least 20,000 people near just the Capitol area as of noon.
Professional artists Bill and Debi Jezzard, 68 and 66, respectively, came all the way from Plantersville, near Houston, to participate. As their signs say, the two have been participating in protests since the 1960s against the Vietnam War, for civil rights, in Milwaukee, Chicago and Berkeley, Calif.

(13,110 posts)1. I am sorry but I can not take your word for this.
I will have to check with Sean Spicer.
Apparently he is the only one is this country that is qualified to give official crowd counts.
On a serious note thanks to all who participated.

(5,075 posts)2. Not official
But as a volunteer, word on the ground was that we ordered 20,000 counting stickers. Before the stated show-up time, all stickers were gone, and people were pouring in from the streets. So 50,000 sounds right to me.
