U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, continuing to stoke the flames about whether he will mount a primary challenge against U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018, said Tuesday that Cruz has been too focused on his presidential ambitions.
I think hes spent a lot of time since day one running for president, McCaul, an Austin Republican, said in an interview with Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith. I think we deserve somebody in the Senate who is going to be representing the interests of the state of Texas.
Since dropping out of the presidential race, Cruz has spent a significant amount of time touring Texas, which McCaul acknowledged in the interview. I do think after this election cycle that he has come home, that he realizes
you have to mind the store back home, McCaul said, and I do think he has traveled the state in an effort to get that back on track.
Talk of a possible McCaul Senate run sprang up after Cruz declined to endorse Donald Trump in a prime-time speech during the Republican National Convention, encouraging people to instead vote your conscience. The uproar over the speech provided an opening for GOP leaders who have long disliked Cruz to go after the junior senator from Texas, who was previously viewed as nearly untouchable in a GOP primary because of his base of hardline conservative supporters.

elect him.
Yet he represents my district in NW Austin.
He will actually be much worse than Cruz because he is halfway
sane and still mean as shit.
