Jet from NAS-Kingsville crashes in Jim Wells County

An investigation continues into a T-45 jet from Naval Air Station Kingsville that crashed north of Premont.

The routine training flight crashed about 9:15 p.m. Sunday in an open field about 17 miles southwest of the airfield. The student and instructor pilots survived by ejecting from the aircraft, according to a base news release.

Jim Wells County first responders were dispatched to the scene and both pilots were taken by South Texas Air Med to a local hospital for evaluation.

The Navy is withholding the names of the two pilots until their families are notified of their safety, the news release states.
