Rick Perry at the GOP Convention Day 1, from the Lone Star Project

Rick Perry Got Trump Right the First Time
Perry touting Trump after declaring him “cancer” on conservatism

Tonight former Texas Governor Rick Perry will address the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and try to rally support for Donald Trump. Of course, just a few months ago, the two-time failed presidential candidate was one of the first prominent Republicans to hammer Trump and lay out all the damage his nomination and presidency would do to the Republicans and to our nation.

So, when Rick Perry takes the stage in Cleveland tonight, his words will say less about Trump than they will about Perry’s own integrity. What should Texans – and the public at large believe – that Perry was lying when he first told them about Donald Trump or that he’s lying to them now?

Perry called Trump a “barking carnival act”
While running for President less than a year ago, Perry blasted Trump’s hateful rhetoric and attack on combat veteran and POW, John McCain. He even called Trump a “barking carnival act."

It’s all about politics for Perry
At this point in Perry’s political career, he knows a third run for President won’t be a charm. His political career depends on patronage from a Republican President, whoever it may be.

Perry’s seat on the gravy train after the election depends on him jumping on the bandwagon now and pulling on as many others as he can. So, to get a decent appointment and regain lost relevance, Perry has to throw away his old notes and sing a new tune about Donald Trump.
