Why should you care? In plain English this is a shift from an originally passive theology in which believers are waiting to be Raptured from the earth prior and escape imminent apocalyptic horrors, to a politicized theology in which believers must take control over society and government. End times narratives provide a blueprint for activism much like a platform defines goals of a political party. The narratives provide a clear picture of what we can expect from this particular stream of evangelicalism as it gains both religious and political clout and molds tomorrow's Religious Right.

(12,157 posts)I don't believe in the Rapture which was created out of whole cloth in 19th century America. I do believe in the 2nd coming of Christ and that no one knows when that will be except it will be at the end of all things- time and space. So what does that make me?

(4,695 posts)Faith and Law, known today as Church and State, until the 2nd coming of Christ that you do believe in. (Rhetorical question used as a statement.) How about the history of why the Forefathers set up the government of the US without the Bible and instead with a Constitution and Bill of Rights. There is to be no religious test, therefore religion and worship are not a part of government over every person. Religious Faith is separate from the Laws of the State.
One example of a Theocracy is the Islamic Republic of Iran, where the Koran takes the place of a Constitution and Bill of Rights. In my opinion, faith and law are joined in Theocracy, but are separate in a Constitutional Republic.

(12,157 posts)Give me a fffing break, would you? I believe the establishment of the church as an arm of government following Constantine was wrong in so many ways and is responsible for many deaths and injuries.
Perhaps your reply to me was not meant for me personally if so, I stand corrected.
BTW I am the middle of 5 generations of veterans of the armed services all who are sworn to uphold the constitution of the U.S. from enemies external and internal.

(4,695 posts)I find it sad that people are going to vote for Ted Cruz based on his Dominionism movement to set up a theocracy for Christ until Christ returns to take it over for Himself-Dominionism. What Democrat could be in the position of the Leader of a Theocracy, until the time that Christ sets up His thousand year reign? Thanks for speaking for yourself, kind heart. I am guessing/supposing you are a Pentecostal. No harm to you intended.
By the way, I too, am a member of a multiple generation of families of Veterans of the Armed Services who are sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States from enemies external and internal.
