Ag Commish Sid Miller on Syrian refugees: ‘Can you tell me which of these rattlers won’t bite you?’

AUSTIN — In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller compared Syrian refugees to rattlesnakes.

First noted by the Texas Tribune, the Facebook post contrasts an image of rattlesnakes on top of an image of Syrian refugees. Miller’s caption for the post reads: “Can you tell me which of these rattlers won’t bite you? Sure some of them won’t, but tell me which ones so we can bring them into the house.”

The post was made on Miller’s campaign Facebook page, where it has been shared more than 5,000 times. His campaign did not immediately return a request for comment.

While some on Facebook criticized the post, others expressed support for Miller.
