Ken Paxton wins access to grand jury records in case against him

A state judge Friday granted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s request to view records detailing the formation of several Collin County grand juries, including the one that indicted him last summer for alleged felony violations of state securities laws.

The ruling will let defense lawyers check for irregularities in grand jury proceedings as they prepare to file motions to dismiss the indictments, including two counts of securities fraud, related to several Paxton business deals before he became attorney general in January.

Originally due at the end of September, those motions are now due Oct. 30, state District Judge George Gallagher ruled Friday.

Prosecutors, who had opposed granting Paxton access to the records, predicted his defense team would find nothing useful in the material.
