Female Ranger is Copperas Cove grad

One of the two women to complete the Army Ranger School at Fort Benning, Ga., is a 2008 Copperas Cove High School graduate.

First Lt. Shaye Haver is an Apache pilot with the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Aviation Regiment, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colo.

She made history this week by being one of two women to complete the Ranger course, one of the most difficult schools in the U.S. military. The Army did not release Haver’s name, however, the CBS Evening News and other media outlets were reporting it Tuesday night.

While a student at Cove High, Haver played soccer, earning a spot on the women’s varsity team as a freshman, and ran cross-country track.
