Blue Bell making Texas comeback starting Aug. 31 -- Are you in one of the lucky counties? See map

When people traveling on U.S. 290 through Brenham stop at Scoops at Westood and ask when Blue Bell ice cream will return, Brett Smith will finally have some good news to tell.

Brenham-based Blue Bell announced Monday afternoon that its products will be back on store shelves in select, including most of the Brazos Valley, on Aug. 31. It will be the first time Blue Bell products will be available for sale after the company's self-imposed nationwide recall in April after a listeria outbreak was traced to its production plants.

Smith, owner of Scoops, pulled all 32 ice cream flavors from his coolers following the recall and even experimented with selling snow cones during the four-month period. Smith said that he, like many Brenham businesses that sell Blue Bell, is proud he held out for the hometown brand and chose not restock coolers with other options.

"We're just a loyal sort," Smith said. "Since Blue Bell has been supporting this community for so long ... it was time for us to give them our support and we all felt the same way. We can hang in there as long as they can."

I can see why the home town might hold out...can't image why anyone else would bother.

Hi,

One thing you can say about Blue Bell, is that they have a great P.R. Dept. They made ice cream that caused the death of a human being, yet all you hear on TV are people waving their Pom Poms & saying how much they miss Blue Bell & they can't wait until it returns. If it had been any other Company, there would have been calls of "Off with their heads."

Did I say they caused the death of a human being ! Who are these people paying off to get such good publicity. I will never eat Blue Bell again.
