KARNES CITY In a press release sent from his Washington D.C. Office, U.S. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa praised a recent court ruling calling for the release of immigrant families from detentions centers in Karnes City and Dilley, and described the conditions in these facilities as inhumane.
Hinojosas statement was in response to Judge Dolly M. Gees July 26 ruling that stated the Obama administrations detention of children and mothers was a violation of a court settlement and that the families should be released as soon as possible.
I applaud the federal ruling confirming that the conditions for immigrant children and their mothers in detention centers in Dilley and Karnes County, Texas are inhumane, Hinojosa said. My colleagues and I in Congress have called upon the Department of Homeland Security to adhere to laws in place requiring safe and non-threatening conditions in the detention centers. We expect this ruling to bring about an end to reports of maltreatment and will therefore closely monitor DHS compliance to ensure the families are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with the values and laws of the United States of America.
The 15th District of Texas, represented by Hinojosa, includes Karnes, Wilson, Live Oak, Jim Hogg, Hidalgo, Guadalupe, Duval and Brooks Counties.

(112,252 posts)that it is a private contractor running that facility. The privately run detention centers and prisons in this state are deplorable and they need to be closed ASAP. When I worked for the state back in the 90s I recall the predictions from the prison officials that something like this would occur as everything was privatized.
Every thing that I see from prisons, detention centers, data entry, insurance company liquidations, and computer programming has turned out to be a fiasco with the contractors failing to meet standards The state spent more money writing specs, bidding contracts, monitoring contract compliance with administrative staff, and having attorneys involved with the whole contracting process than the piddly amounts that they saved for outsourcing those projects. Meanwhile the employees at the contractors have substandard wages/benefits compared to state employees and the clientele is served poorly.

(58,724 posts)I am glad that there are some people that appreciate digging deeper into the history of the alarming and despicable activity going on in these facilities, now and in the recent past.
