Governor Abbott Statement On Texas Voter ID Law

Governor Greg Abbott today released the following statement after the Fifth Circuit Court issued its decision on Texas’ voter ID law:

“In light of ongoing voter fraud, it is imperative that Texas has a voter ID law that prevents cheating at the ballot box. Texas will continue to fight for its voter ID requirement to ensure the integrity of elections in the Lone Star State.”

Part of the court's analysis is a balancing test where the interest of the state is weighed against the disparate impact. The 5th Cir. found insufficient evidence of voter fraud to justify the Texas voter id law
