Attacker at Muhammad cartoon event in Garland not linked to Fast and Furious sting, ATF says

WASHINGTON — A gun purchased in 2010 by Nadir Soofi, one of the armed attackers killed in May while storming a Muhammad cartoon convention in Garland, was not connected to the botched Fast and Furious sting operation, federal officials said Tuesday.

Ginger Colbrun, chief spokeswoman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, confirmed that Soofi legally purchased the 9 mm handgun from the Lone Wolf Trading Co. store in Glendale, Ariz., as reported by the Los Angeles Times over the weekend.

But while the gun shop was the top outlet for the Justice Department’s secret Fast and Furious firearms operation at the time of Soofi’s purchase, the sale was not part of the sting and Soofi was not a known criminal suspect, she said.

Previously, federal officials had refused to comment on the 2010 purchase.

in the public's mind than the correction of the story. With so much information from so many sources the GOP know this and start all manner of accusations. Benghazi is the largest example. But clearly not the only case.

Google - a Fortune magazine "The truth about Fast and Fuious"

On June 1, Dodson used $2,500 in ATF funds to purchase six AK Draco pistols from local gun dealers, and gave these to Fernandez, who reimbursed him and gave him $700 for his efforts. Two days later, according to case records, Dodson—who would later testify that in his previous experience, “if even one [gun] got away from us, nobody went home until we found it”—left on a scheduled vacation without interdicting the guns. That day, Voth wrote to remind him that money collected as evidence needed to be vouchered within five days. Dodson e-mailed back, his sarcasm fully restored: “Do the orders define a ‘day’? Is it; a calendar day? A business day or work day….? An Earth day (because a day on Venus takes 243 Earth days which would mean that I have plenty of time)?”
