Houston Rejects Anti-Trans Petition Due To Bigot's Big Blunder
HOUSTON - An anti-gay activist's petition drive to place a referendum on the November ballot in Houston has failed, the mayor announced, because he didn't submit enough signatures of qualified voters.
The mayor's declaration came hours after Dave Wilson wheeled a cart carrying boxes of petitions into the city secretary's office calling for a public vote on gender identity.
"On its face, there's no reason to count them," said Mayor Annise Parker. "And I have no clue what he thought he might achieve by turning in an insufficient number of petitions, other than to show that he couldn't collect enough petitions."
Wilson later conceded he hadn't turned in enough signatures because he misread the arcane rules surrounding petition drives.
