The nation this week was shocked when video surfaced showing University of Oklahoma students, members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, chanting a racist song. "There will never be a n****r at SAE," the members pledged.
Now, the Sun Times reports that racist chant may be linked to another fraternity at the University of Texas, Austin.
One user of the popular social media site Reddit posted a photo of a set of confidential rules for pledges from Phi Gamma Delta (known as Fiji) at the Univ. of Texas.
Those rules, while they include "no drugs," and "Respect the Ladies," also include offensive ones like "No interracial dating," "no Mexicans," and in all caps "NO FAGETRY."

UT's Phi Gamma Delta frat, in addition to this latest unsettling display of racism and homophobia, was the scene just a month ago of a racist party, where the theme was reportedly "Border Patrol." Students called it "Western."

(9,148 posts)..is a clone of OU's President, all they will get is a stern talking to & told to cool it till things settle down. I believe this goes on often & those who should demand better just look the other way.
Sadly.

(9,129 posts)Not likely, alas. OU President David Boren is a former Democratic US Senator and, unlike the sorts of people Dubya and Rick would install, is not the sort to tolerate such blatantly racist cr*p.

(907 posts)In addition to dropping a few of their rules, they should add this one: "No misspelling." (And to think these are college students! )
Wait, I'm not through. . . .
"No working out"? Oh, no, what will I do? Oh, well, I'll just have to cancel my health club membership. I know my personal trainer will be disappointed.

(112,422 posts)It looks like you are going make a great Phi Gamma Delta pledge. Just remember, don't ask, don't tell and don't pick up the soap in the shower if you drop it. What happens in the Fiji House stays in the Fiji House.

(63 posts)They limit what the pledges can do to emerge new members into frat "culture," for lack of a better word. I went to school in Austin. Greeks there were shunned by 95% of the UT student body.

(28,272 posts)That's incorrect in a couple of respects. First, the spelling. Hey, Fiji guys: think real hard about the other obvious problem with that rule.
