A basketball game that had plenty of action on the court is generating headlines for something that happened in the stands.
Friday's boys basketball game between Dallas-area schools Plano East and Flower Mound that went three overtimes was marred by fans in the Flower Mound student section holding signs that read "WHITE POWER."
"We thought it was racist. It said "white power," and we were shocked," a Plano East athlete told Dallas TV station WFAA.
The student told WFAA the signs were held up for 30 seconds before school personnel rushed to take the signs today.

I want to be clear that this type of incident however it has been perceived has not and will not be tolerated in LISD. We have always had high expectations for our more than 53,000 students and hold them to those standards both in and outside of the classroom.
As we stated yesterday, the investigation of this occurrence is still underway, and we fully intend to act on our findings. We regret that this unfortunate event has been elevated to this level on so many social media circles.
I am disheartened that the perceived actions of a few may reflect poorly on two great schools Flower Mound and Plano East High Schools school districts and communities. Ultimately, please know we have the highest respect for the students, staff and community of Plano East High School."

Truly, he's pissed that it has hit Twitter and Facebook? They aren't perceived actions, you dipshit, they're actions! And they don't reflect poorly on both schools - they're your students who are racist jerks and who need to be dealt with accordingly!

(31,849 posts)what color the Flower Mound team was wearing that evening ... cuz "White Power" could be a completely non-racialized reference to uniforms.
And, no the "Down" sign carrying guy isn't doesn't appear to be a PoC.
Neither do the folks standing around him/her.

(31,849 posts)the only thing that gives me pause is the lettering of the "White" and "Power" are different ... suggesting that the two words might be a part of a longer message. Now, what that message could possibly be, with three of the five cards readable (maybe there were more, the people were just sitting on them), I couldn't tell you.
