The prosecutor in the Rick Perry abuse of office case filed an updated and more detailed indictment of the former governor. In it he states that the state intends to prove that Perry vetoed money for the Public Integrity Unit because he wished to stymie or obstruct the work of the anti-corruption office.
The court papers add new accusations and details to the indictment and state Perry did not approve of the historical and current management decisions of the Public Integrity Unit and that was his motivation for vetoing the money.
The new bill of particulars on the indictment state that Perry had no authority or control over the integrity unit, and so misused his position to try and force out Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg because he did not want her to continue to manage the unit that is within her office.
Perry has long contended that he was deeply offended by Lehmbergs actions during her arrest for drunken driving in the spring of 2013. Videotape showed the Democratic district attorney arguing with sheriffs deputies, sticking out her tongue and yelling. The week after her arrest, she apologized and pleaded guilty to DWI, accepting jail time.
