Texas legislators get pay raise through hike in daily expense payments
AUSTIN – Texas legislators will receive a pay raise for the first time since 2009.
The state Ethics Commission voted Friday to increase the amount that lawmakers are paid for daily expenses in Austin from $150 to $190.
That adds up to a financial boost of at least $5,600 this year for each legislator — in money the Internal Revenue Service does not consider income.
The change, which is retroactive to the start of this year, could cost taxpayers an additional $1 million annually.
