After 65 years of saving, an 81-year-old Slaton man has deposited $816 worth of pennies at Prosperity Bank.

Ira Keys hasn't spent a penny since he was 17 years old, because of advice his father gave him.

"He says, 'Whatever you do son, save your money,'" Keys said. "Back when I started in '52, I didn't have a lot of money, so I saved pennies and I just kept saving them."

The collection weighed in at about 500 pounds.[font style="font-family:papyrus,'Brush Script MT','Infindel B',fantasy;" size=4 color=teal]

This was ~50 years ago before he left Laredo. Occasionally he would 'prank' some of his coworkers by slipping a photocopied $20/10/5 into their tills before the end of the day. He liked to see how quick they would catch it during their end of day count.

I can see it being funny a couple of times, but I'm sure that some of them probably thought he was being an a$$hole. He has a sick sense of humor, which, I'm sure, is how I got my own.

Off topic, can you tell me how you changed the font of your post? Is there a list of avail fonts or something?

[font style="font-family:papyrus,'Brush Script MT','Infindel B',fantasy;" size=4 color=teal]The fonts available depend entirely upon the available fonts on the computer viewing my posts.

Here is a post I made about how I do my font:

Now I just have to find a way to sneak some runic fonts onto everyone's computers.

I'm going to have to play with this stuff later. Unfortunately I have too big of a migraine to play on the computer right now.

I owe you a horn of mead for the tips...

Starting 1952 he got to have some old ones that might have collectors value.
