Governor addresses state emergency responders

SAN ANTONIO - Emergency responders from across the state of Texas are in San Antonio this week for their annual Emergency Management Conference.

The conference is an opportunity for the state's first responders to look back on their responses to last year's disasters and apply the lessons learned to this year's responses.

Gov. Rick Perry got things kicked off Monday afternoon, reminding the responders that even though it's been a very beautiful spring with some good rain we are still in a drought and it wouldn't take much for the state to see more wildfires this summer.

"I remember heading over to Bastrop last fall seeing that gray wall of smoke from one horizon to the other, it was consuming the horizon as far as you can see," Perry recalled as he spoke to the responders gathered at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center.
