Nearly 50 suspected illegal immigrants found in Houston home

Federal agents took almost 50 suspected illegal immigrants into custody early Friday after a tip led police to a home in southwest Houston.

About 8:45 a.m., Houston police saw people running away when they arrived at a home in the 14000 block of Hiram Clarke, south of Orem. HPD officials notified Immigration and Customs Enforcement after they discovered that a large number of people appeared to be staying there.

ICE agents took 49 people into custody — 38 men and 11 juveniles — who were found in the house. They are believed to be from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico, officials said.

Federal officials said the investigation is still in the early stages. They will question the people in custody to confirm if they were in the country illegally.
