Texas Railroad Commissioner Smitherman defends fracking, urges Denton to reject ban

Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Barry Smitherman is urging Denton’s mayor and city council not to approve a petition to ban hydraulic fracturing within city limits.

In a letter released Friday, he dismissed claims that fracking posed a risk to public health and called oil and natural gas drilling, “key pillars of our Texas economy.”

“Hydraulic fracturing is the transformative technology that has radically changed the Texas, American and global energy markets in a very favorable way. Banning hydraulic fracturing will increase America’s dependence on foreign oil and natural gas, and will decrease revenues and taxes flowing into our state and local governments,” Smitherman wrote.

Denton sits atop the Barnett Shale, one of the country’s largest natural gas fields.

Does he have to breath?

Oil and gas really began in 1923 near Big Lake, so 91 years.

Wonder how Texans ever made a living for the first 87 years?

This is why lawyers should not be allowed to "regulate" oil and gas, nor comment on the engineering of same.
