KEMAH A former mayor will appear in Kemahs municipal court later this year to challenge 200 code ordinance violations the city claims occurred at his property in the 700 block of Bradford Avenue.

Kemah is a tourist destination along the Houston Ship Channel completed with its own boardwalk. After Hurricane Ike hit, the former mayor, who is a real estate developer, and a judge began a land grab using local development codes to force residents out of their homes and offering low-ball offers to the residents to acquire property. The mayor is alleged to have used his influence to prevent property inspectors from returning calls to property owners, denying permits to property owners to repair damaged property, and selectively enforcing other fire and safety codes. Now the tables have turned and the former mayor is facing the code enforcement violations after he purchased the property and failed to bring the properties in compliance with the development codes.
