WTF?
If Washington was reeling on Tuesday, the vertigo may have stemmed from something rare: blunt honesty from the mouth of an elected official.
Really.
It occurred as Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin, head of the Democratic Governors Assn., detailed for reporters the groups target races this year.
Top tier: Maine, Pennsylvania, Florida. Second tier: Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin. Fingers crossed: South Carolina, Georgia, Kansas, Arizona.
Notably absent was one of the supposed marquee races of 2014, Democrat Wendy Davis effort to derail Republican Greg Abbott in Texas.

(14 posts)A right-to-work, anti-minimum wage ".1%"er candidate? Walker? Democratic governors really can't be bothered with it. Jellyfish.

(7,672 posts)I've lived in this west Texas town 60 years, and I can tell you right now that many of the older Republican ladies who staff the election tables, do all the real volunteer work have told me that they are voting for Davis, BECAUSE she is a woman and is in favor of defending women's rights.
Now if lifelong Republicans are thinking of switching, I would suggest that's strong.
On the other hand, should Davis win after being written off by DGA, no one in Texas will ever have to contribute to DGA again. Ever.
Dumb bastards ought to buy at least a cheap ticket, or else they will be out in the cold and rightfully so.

(145,496 posts)There are several states that are far easier wins compared to Texas. Wendy has a good chance but I think that Pennsylvania, Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan are more probable victories compared to Texas. Texas is going to be a hard state to turn blue but it can be done.
Remember that in most years, Texas Democrats are giving money to Democrats in other states. This year a great deal of this money is staying in Texas to finance the Davis and van de Putte campaigns. I just made another donation to Wendy and will be making a donation to Leticia van de Putte today in time for a reporting deadline.
The DGA will not be getting any donations from me this year and I will be focusing my efforts on Leticia, Wendy and a couple of local races.

(2 posts)I live in Dallas TX and I am a a Wendy & Leticia Van de Putte supporter. Abbott is a weak candidate! I am not impressed with Wendy's campaign as to date. She needs to be making up ground!! If you review her website and press written about her, she does not have a complete platform on all the issues. Besides hitting Abbott's record and stances, she needs to be talking about her stances and why they are better for Texas. I believe to date that Van de Putte is running a better campaign.

(145,496 posts)First and foremost, welcome to DU
Wendy's campaign is relying on Battleground which is doing a ton of work. Wendy's campaign is letting Battleground take the lead on the organizational front so far. I agree that she needs to be more aggressive. I just saw that she is coming to my county for a fundraiser on June 21 and I looking forward to seeing her.
I have met Leticia van de Putte twice now and she is the real deal. I am impressed. I just gave her some more money and will me making further contributions.

(112,387 posts)I agree that Wendy Davis needs to be more aggressive in her campaign. Some of the reasons that may have hampered her recently are the ethics investigation regarding the NTTA bonds that are handled by the law firm where she is a partner, and more importantly is that she recently had surgery on her neck. The medical issue has undoubtedly limited her ability to be in available to the public.
I'm hoping that she will be more active in the next couple of months and it may be a wise move to not peak in popularity at this early stage of the game.
