Vince Young wants to be UT ambassador

HOUSTON — Vince Young is Mack Brown’s guy. He always will be, too. The former quarterback and coach had a symbiotic relationship as they led Texas to the 2005 national championship.

But Young said new coach Charlie Strong has reached out and embraced him, making sure he stays involved in the Longhorns’ future. That’s why Young was more than willing to attend the Houston stop of the Comin’ On Strong Tour on Wednesday at Reliant Stadium.

“That was one of the first things when I met with him,” Young said. “He said, ‘Vince, I want you to be involved.’ And I told him I’m always going to be involved. I’ll be here to help out any way I can. Just to hear that from him, I have a lot of respect for him.”

Young said he’d like to evolve into something of a UT ambassador, much like former Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams. Young said he’s been asked to attend some future UT events and speak about life as a Longhorn.
