‘Longview patriots’ may foot Nugent bill

Mayor Jay Dean is looking for “Longview patriots” to pay the city back after upper level administration chose to cancel negotiations with Ted Nugent.

“We call them Longview patriots because it is people who truly do love Longview and wanted to do something,” Dean said.

Dean said the idea came after fielding calls from Longview residents who asked what they could do to help the city, after it became known that the city paid $16,250 to end negotiations with Nugent to play the Fireworks and Freedom Celebration.

“No matter what decision you made it was going to be a bad situation. And we admit that; we apologized for that,” Dean said. “Now it is how do we go do something that says we are taking responsibility for this whole issue, but also we are wanting to give the money back to the city and not have taxpayers pay for that.”
