Two percent of Texans have cast primary ballots so far

FORT WORTH--About 2 percent of Texans have cast ballots for the March 4 primary election, but thousands more are expected to head to the polls before early voting ends Friday.

Among those voters are more than 22,000 local residents — 15,352 Republicans and 7,457 Democrats — who cast their ballots through Saturday in an election that officials say appears to be going smoothly here.

In the state’s largest counties, more Republicans have voted than their Democratic counterparts, except for in Cameron, El Paso, Hidalgo and Travis counties, according to voting data provided by the Texas Secretary of State’s Office.

More than 188,000 voters, or 2.17 percent of the state’s 8.6 million registered voters, voted in person in the state’s largest 15 counties through Saturday, according to the most recent information.

I know that it's early, that it's a primary and that only one nominee might be running for a specific office, but we do need a large turnout in the Democratic primary. It is important to impress the national party by showing that Texas Democrats nominate viable candidates and show up to vote. Putting up large vote totals during the primary will also attract campaign funds for those candidates by out-of-state contributors and the national party, so GOTV!

I will be voting this week, probably tomorrow. The locals and the Judge elections are important for the Democrats, so don't ignore the primaries. Let's show the world that Texas Democrats care about the elections.

Could you arrange for a lab accident to keep your GOP colleagues busy until after the polls close on Election Day in November?

More than me this week. One machine broke, two parts failed and an entire run of their samples was prepped wrong.

I'm just glad I was able to avoid any major problems after my fiasco of a Monday.
