Texas grid operator expects summer electricity pinch

AUSTIN — The operator of the main Texas electric power grid says it expects a slim margin this summer between demand and capacity for generating electricity.

In its annual preliminary summer assessment released Thursday, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas says efforts are already under way to enhance voluntary reductions in power demand during peak hours this coming summer.

In a statement, ERCOT Vice President Kent Saathoff said above-normal temperatures are expected this summer, although not as extreme as last summer's. If those expectations are borne out, he says ERCOT expects to be able to meet peak demand for electric power unless there are an unusual number of generation outages.

Or at least his administration's EPA. EPA has ordered Texas power plant facilities to comply with Clean Air Act etc. They're supposed to install the best available technology to reduce toxic releases. And our worthless state agency TCEQ which is supposed to regulate pollution has been removed from the equation. They're equivalent to the same industry polluters. A total captured agency.

Those polluting industries (mainly coal power plants) have responded by shuttering their spewing toxic coal plants and blaming the Obama administration for future power shortages. Oh and of course warning that electric rates will rise due to increased costs.

You know the usual bullshit that business can get away with, especially in Texas where "bidness" is king.

on them.
