I used to live in Culbertson's district and think that he is an idiot. Culbertson was questioning AG Holder on the Texas voter id law and was asked a question that he got wrong about whether college ids were acceptable ids for voting in Texas [link:http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/texas_rep_gets_defense_his_states_voter_id_law_wrong.php?ref=fpb|
Rep. John Culberson (R-TX) offered an impassioned defense of his states voter photo ID law during an appropriations hearing featuring Attorney General Eric Holder on Tuesday. But he didnt get the details quite right.
In the middle of Culbersons questioning of Holder during an Appropriations subcommittee hearing on the Justice Departments budget request, Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA) asked Culberson whether photo IDs issued by state universities could be used at the polls under the Texas law.
I . I dont know why it wouldnt, I dont see any prohibition against it, I read it, I dont see it, Culberson said. Ive read it and I dont see any prohibition against a photo ID issued by a state university in Texas.
Culberson continued: I see nothing in the law that prohibits a valid student ID issued by a state university from being used to vote.
College Ids are not acceptable under the Texas voter id law because college students may vote for Democrats.
Culbertson is an idiot.

They could give a rat's ass if this bill makes it harder for students to vote. And many of them think students shouldn't be voting anyway. They're way to immature (read liberal) to vote.
If it was up to republicans we would take the right to vote away from women and anyone under 21.

Theres been plenty of reporting about how student IDs issued by Texas state universities would not, in fact, be allowed under the law, which is currently under review by the Justice Departments Civil Rights Division under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. Under the new requirements, only drivers licenses, law enforcement personal ID cards, military IDs, citizenship certificates, U.S. passports or a license to carry a concealed handgun would be accepted.
When Fattah later pulled up a copy of the Texas statute on his iPad to demonstrate that state university IDs wouldnt be accepted, Culberson changed his tune a bit.
Its up to the state legislatures to determine whether or not the verification procedures for issuing that ID are sufficient. Im confident they had good reason, Culberson said, maintaining that he didnt see student IDs banned under the legislation.
"Im confident they had good reason" said Culberson. Of course they did Johnny boy, it's called not wanting students to vote. That was their reason.
