Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) was unable to explain why Republicans needed to threaten economic disaster to try to get their way on Obamacare during an interview on CBSs Face The Nation on Sunday.
Bob Schieffer, Face the Nations host, repeatedly asked Cornyn why, instead of using normal legislative procedures like passing laws, Republicans were refusing to pass a continuing resolution funding the government or raise the debt ceiling absent changes to several parts of President Obamas signature health care law. Schieffer compared this strategy to saying Im going to throw a brick through your window unless you give me $20:

But when a certified card carrying beltway media whore like Bob Schieffer starts pointing out how ridiculous this stunt is, maybe there is some hope at last.

(15,682 posts)perhaps there had been a slight shift in reporting and questioning. Then I watched the beginning of MTP this morning and almost pulled my hair out. The woman (don't know who she is) made me want Gregory back.

(19,926 posts)Anything on mainstream TV isn't liberal media. Any major newspapers aren't liberal media. I believe you mean the corporate media.
The real liberal media has been calling them out, but there's not as much exposure or readership/viewership for that.

(297,565 posts)that's too busy chuck todding to push back on republicon lies.
That's why I was grateful to see this about Bob Schieffer pushing back on Cornyn!

(53,661 posts)Thanks for posting. Very well done questioning there. Hope it gets through to lots of folks.
Just got off the phone with best friends in Texas about this. They are hispanic and they think that Cruz and the rest of the gang are complete idiots.
They said they'd been to a rally of people demonstrating against the shutdown. Some of the people there were wearing t-shirts which had on the front side 'I AM ONE VOTE.'
On the back was a picture of a pinata with the words (Sorry, forget the exact ones) that they would take the GOP down the same way!
I've seen kids breaking open the pinata and it's not always a pretty affair. In fact, it can get downright brutal.
Cruz was right to fear hispanic candidates running in Texas. The next one to watch out for will be Jorge Bush. He's being groomed right now after being appointed to a state office.
Keep on 'em, Texas. and elect Wendy Davis as Governor!

(19,926 posts)That the negotiations already happened. That there were months where the GOP refused to talk. He let stand that the Dems aren't willing to negotiate now and that's why there's this impasse. Maybe he says something later and it wasn't on the clip posted by freshwest that I watched, but that is an essential point in this that needs to get hammered home.

(15,189 posts)That was ALL the negotiations they needed. I hope he didn't let him get away is right.

(45,984 posts)-- Would you believe we're going to shut down the government if you don't defend Obamacare?
-- No, I find that very hard to believe. Your bluff is called, Mr. Smart.
-- Would you believe we're going to shut down the government unless you add a poison pill to the act?
-- No, I wouldn't believe that, either.
-- Would you believe were going to shut down the government unless President Obama admits that he was born in Kenya?

(4,695 posts)a hoot about him. During the 2014 Texas Repbulican Primary, the TEA Party will drown him, in my opinion.

Still, he's no great shakes most of the time. He used to be a little better, I think.
