Castro, Gonzalez named to Obama campaign

WASHINGTON — San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro and U.S. Rep. Charlie Gonzalez were named national co-chairmen for the Obama for America campaign to re-elect the president, officials said Wednesday.

Castro and Gonzalez, D-San Antonio, were among 30 leaders nationally that the campaign has designated to advise the re-election effort and mobilize voters in all 50 states.

“They each share the president's vision for a future where every American can have a fair shot at success, where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded,” said Jim Messina, the Obama campaign manager.

Gonzalez endorsed Obama over Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., in the 2008 Texas Democratic primary and will work with the Obama campaign to win re-election.
