Perry Leaning Toward a Run for Re-election

Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday he is leaning toward running for re-election in 2014 and possibly another stab at the White House two years after that.

Perry also told The Texas Tribune he had learned a few lessons from his failed presidential bid. He said he knows now he got into the race too late. He underestimated how hard it would be to recover from back surgery. And he learned that everything a candidate says in a presidential race is fodder for the national media echo chamber.

Other than that, he loved every minute of it.

“It was fun. I had a great time,” Perry said. “I would not in any form or fashion tell you I wish I hadn’t done it, and I am so glad I did it.”

He'll be highly beatable in 2 years. But we've got to have a candidate. I hope Bill White is still interested.

However, I believe that the Democrats need to nominate a candidate that has a bit more tenacious to take on Gov. Goodhair if he decides to run again. Perhaps Juanita Jean can be persuaded to leave the hair parlor to be our public servant?

What is really pathetic is that even after Perry's national embarrassment, Texas republican voters will still re-elect him.

UT/TT Poll: Texans Split on Another Term for Perry

If he really wants to run for another term as governor — as he told The Texas Tribune on Tuesday — Rick Perry has some work ahead of him. While 39 percent of Texas voters said they would be likely to support him in 2014, 51 percent said they wouldn't, according to the new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll.

The supporters are less intense than the opponents: 21 percent said they would be "very likely" to support another term for the governor, while 42 percent said they would be "very unlikely." One in 10 voters were undecided on the re-election question.

"It's not that Perry is dead," said Daron Shaw, a professor of government at the University of Texas at Austin and co-director of the poll. "But the notion that he's invulnerable is dead."

Lets hope that 51% really sticks to their feeling all the way through 2014. Honestly we can't have any more Perry permanently in our future.
