DALLAS -- A review of Texas Gov. Rick Perry's official state calendar conjures an image of an absentee governor.
In the first 16 days since abandoning his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, Perry has been to his office just three times and stayed no longer than three hours each time, The Dallas Morning News reported in Sunday's edition.
Citing Perry's own state calendars, The News reported Perry has barely returned to his Capitol office in Austin after spending almost six months away campaigning for the presidential nomination. In 11 of the days since, his schedule shows no state meetings, phone calls or other events. In the five days thereafter, he is shown engaging in 10 hours of state business spread over three days.
One day, he taped a message for the El Pasoan of the Year. He toured a racetrack under construction near Austin another day.

The ironic part of the story is near the end of the article where Bill White, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in 2010, suggested during the campaign that the governor be paid by the hour. Now we know where Gov. Goodhair came up with the part-time Congress idea.

If you do decide to purchase this article, I do need to warn you that they quote Harold Cook.
It doesnt matter what time period you look at, this governor always has something better to do than run the state, said Harold Cook, a consultant who works closely with Democratic state senators.
And he says that like its a bad thing.

(18,063 posts)The better news would be if he just quit. Really he's a drag on our impression around the world. No one is going to forget his "oops" moments and how stupid he made us look.
He really should just mosey on over to the private sector and suck his money directly from his corporate masters spigot now.
