Katy ISD may call bond election tonight for new stadium
At a meeting tonight, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees may get one step closer to building a second football stadium. The board could call for a November bond election to fund a $68 million, 14,000-seat stadium to sit next to the existing facility.
A bond committee has recommended a three-part bond package for the board to approve, which also includes a new agriculture complex and science center. Officials and KISD staff members say a new stadium is needed to meet scheduling conficts during football season, especially with the opening of high school No. 7.
Katy ISD is the only district in Texas with seven high schools and one stadium for games and activites.

Although the stadium would outsize the current Rhodes Stadium, which seats nearly 10,000, it does not come close to the largest high-school football stadium in the state.
