Activists gather on Presidents Day at S.C. Statehouse rally for unity

COLUMBIA — For three hours Monday, residents from across the state shared a message of unity in the face of the uncertainty and fear they feel under a Donald Trump presidency.

Members of the South Carolina National Action Network gathered at the Statehouse for what organizers called the beginning of the resistance to national and local policies that marginalize groups who live in the state and country.

"On Presidents Day we have a president who thinks he can divide us and separate us," said featured speaker and NAN national president the Rev. Al Sharpton.

"So we stand at the state capitol in the cradle of the South to let them know we stand together on Presidents Day," he continued.
