'Reclaiming our time:' Anti-Trump rebellion tops menu at Orangeburg Democrats' annual cook-off
ORANGEBURG — The annual Orangeburg County Democratic Party Cook-off featured a veritable feast Thursday. Shrimp and grits, fried chicken and stone stew are just a few of the dozens of items on the menu.
But in 2017, the main course that this crowd of more than 1,000 true blue South Carolinians was most excited about was a heaping helping of rebellion.
The event's headliner, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, has achieved cult status in this heavily African-American community for her hyper-aggressive stance against President Donald Trump.
The California Democrat has called for the president's impeachment and turned a parliamentary phrase — "Reclaiming my time" — into a signature slogan after a combative congressional hearing with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
