State police: Providence man hid loaded gun in daughter's diaper bag
RICHMOND, R.I. A Providence man who was carrying a loaded, unpermitted pistol with him in a car and also in the presence of his 6-month-old daughter now faces multiple criminal charges, including child abuse, the state police said Saturday.
Karon Williams, who was a passenger in a vehicle stopped Friday on Route 95 in Richmond, was carrying a loaded pistol in a diaper bag, according to state police spokeswoman, Laura Meade Kirk.
Williams was charged with possessing a loaded handgun inside a vehicle, carrying a handgun without a permit and child abuse due to the presence of his daughter in the car at the time the incident, Kirk said in a news release.
Williams was heading from Providence to New York when the car he was riding in was stopped for a traffic violation at about 4 p.m., Kirk said.
