Biden speaks on behalf of Hillary Clinton, Katie McGinty in Chatham University event

PITTSBURGH -- Speaking before 600 people at Chatham University on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden said he didn’t want to devote much time to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

"I'm so tired, and so disturbed, quite frankly, because of … all the attention has been drawn to this ridiculousness," he said.

Yet Mr. Biden's 40-minute speech did launch several salvos at Mr. Trump, while also offering an optimistic vision of the country under Hillary Clinton — and weighing in on a key Pennsylvania Senate race as well.

"I love the Senate," said Mr. Biden, who served in that body for 36 years before becoming vice president. "But it has been rendered almost non-functioning of late. And so we need … a Democratic Senate."
