Poll: Convention boosts Clinton to 11-point lead over Trump in Pa.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton enjoys an 11-point lead over Republican Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, according to a new Franklin and Marshall College Poll that found a big boost from her party's convention.

Clinton led Trump by 49 percent to 38 percent among likely voters in the survey, being released Thursday, nearly a week after the convention in Philadelphia.

Trump's best region is the southwest, where he leads by 59 percent to 36 percent, and he also enjoys healthy margins in the northwest and central parts of the state.

Clinton leads in northeast Pennsylvania, but her strengths are, as expected, in the suburban areas of the state's southeast and in Philadelphia. Her lead in the southeast is 60 percent to 20 percent, the poll finds.

In Philadelphia, Clinton is outpacing the Democratic Party's 7-1 voter-registration advantage over Republicans, leading Trump 83 percent to 7 percent.

Noting that 35 percent or more of the statewide vote is cast in the city and its suburbs, Madonna said, "You can't win a state if you lose by big margins in the region where 35 percent of the voters live."

Results are based on live telephone interviews conducted from July 29 to Aug. 1 with 661 registered voters, with a margin of error of 4.8 percentage points. The sampling error for the 389 voters who told pollsters they were likely to vote is 6.3 percentage points.
