Rendell endorses Shapiro for attorney general

Democratic former Gov. Ed Rendell has stepped back into the political circus surrounding the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

On Wednesday, Rendell announced he had selected his favorite Democratic candidate running for the post of attorney general in the April 26 primary election. Rendell announced he was backing Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro over embattled incumbent Kathleen Kane, Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli and Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala.

“I spent eight years as District Attorney of Philadelphia, and I know how important it is to have a strong, principled leader dealing with matters of law and order,” Rendell said in his endorsement, that came via Shapiro’s campaign. “I believe in Josh and I am all in for this important race at this critically important time.”

It remains to be seen whether Rendell’s endorsement is a blessing or a curse for Shapiro.

For me, Rendell was a big disappointment as Governor. His recommendation is worthless to me.

If a candidate for Attorney General would tell the voters that a top priority would be actually enforcing the 'Do Not Call List', he'd receive huge bipartisan support. Everyone I know hates telemarketers and robo-calls.
