Very little information has been released about the person or persons that ambushed two state troopers outside of their barracks in NE PA. One trooper was killed and the second trooper was critically wounded. Apparently, the troopers had no warning. State police helicopters from three states were searching the area. It happened Friday night., in Pike County which is east of Scranton and not far from the New York and New Jersey borders.

Corbett said he wanted to attend the press conference in Pike County, but he was told the area was too dangerous.

There is a concern that the shooters may try to kill other police officers. The State Police believe the shooter(s) has left the immediate area. I84 was closed at one point as part of the search.

Of course, there isn't much TV news on the weekend.

Thanks for the report, JPZ.

The second trooper is now in stable condition.

Emergency responders who were getting ready for Medivac helicopters for the troopers thought they were fired upon. New reports said they were mistaken.

The trooper who was killed had recently been transferred from Philadelphia.

Update - As of Monday morning 9/15, the State Police still have not released any information, such as whether there was a security camera, whether one or two shooters were involved, what type of weapon was used, and whether any type of vehicle is suspected of having been used. That information would have been useful to the general public to provide meaningful tips. The road is isolated - there is only one route to and from the site. Therefore, any camera along the length of the road (such as at the I84 interchange or the school complex to the south) would have seen the vehicles going by. It was late at night, but some cameras use ultra-violet light.
